We are a mainly volunteer run adoption center located in Plymouth, MN. Our primary vision is to assist rescue groups and shelters in finding permanent homes for their adoptable cats and dogs. The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Unit consists of 9 K-9 teams. All teams are patrol certified. Five of the teams are trained in narcotics detection, one cross-trained patrol dog and 4 single purpose canines. The single purpose dogs, 2 Labs, 1 Border Terrier, and 1 Golden Retriever, are all Rescue Dogs from area shelters. The Unit also has 2 Patrol Dogs cross-trained in ballistics detection. The primary responsibility of the unit is to ensure the integrity of the perimeter of the Plymouth County Correctional Facility. The Unit also assists with internal security, conducting periodic narcotics searches of housing units and acting as an integral part of the Facility Tactical Response Team, which is tasked with disorder management. The Town of Plymouth requires all volunteers to fill out a for background screening. As a foster home for one of our dogs or cats is a volunteer position this would be required along with our below application(either and mail to address below or complete the form below). If you are interested in only adopting you just need to fill out form below and submit.Friends of Plymouth Dog Park also maintains that barking is actually uncommon when dogs are happy and playing. The group sites the position of Dr. Nick Dodman, program director for the Animal Behavior Department of Clinical Sciences at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University, that exercise in a dog park tires dogs out, increases serotonin in their brains, which, in turn, calms them. When I started rescuing rottweilers in 1998, the shelters in Massachusetts were filled with good, adoptable dogs. Some of the very first shelters I took dogs from were in Plymouth MA, Springfield MA and Manhattan's Center for Animal Care & Control. In those days, the AKC registered over 11,000 litters of rottweilers: second behind labradors. As the years went by, shelters became more savvy - evaluating their own dogs, placing them more responsibly and using the internet to reach out to potential homes for all dogs. At the same time, registered litters with the AKC dropped to the double digits by the early 2000s.
